PreZero orders 42 electric trucks – takes the lead in electric recycling vehicles in Sweden

The recycling company PreZero orders 42 electric trucks, most of which will collect waste and recycling materials in the southern and western suburbs of Stockholm from 2026. The order means that PreZero takes the lead in electric recycling vehicles in Sweden. To be able to charge so many electric trucks, PreZero is making significant investments in charging technology.

Electric heavy traffic is a key for Sweden to reach its climate goals. With our initiative, Stockholm will get a quieter and cleaner urban environment. Now we hope to inspire more people to invest in heavy electric vehicles. At the end of 2024, only one in ten newly registered heavy vehicles in Sweden was electric, says Mårten Widlund, CEO of PreZero Sweden. 

The electric trucks mean lower noise levels in densely populated areas. To drive safely and be heard and seen in the urban environment, they are equipped with flashing lights and artificial sounds when braking, idling, reversing, and accelerating. To charge the new electric trucks, PreZero is making significant investments in charging technology at the depots in southern and northern Stockholm. – Since the network of charging stations is not sufficiently developed, charging will also be an investment of several million for PreZero.

If electric trucks are to take over on a large scale across the country, more places where they can charge are needed, says Mårten Widlund. – We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero chooses to order even more battery-electric trucks from Volvo Trucks. The order of 35 electric trucks from us is the largest so far in the recycling industry in Sweden.

PreZero is really showing the way by converting its transports to zero exhaust emissions, says Stefan Strand, CEO of Volvo Trucks Sweden. PreZero buys 35 electric trucks from Volvo. The others come from Mercedes-Benz and special vehicles from Fuso for garage collection.
